Lea Goldberg (1911-1970) was born in Koenigsberg, East Prussia (today Kaliningrad in Russia) and settled in Tel Aviv in 1935. She was the author of numerous books of poetry in Hebrew, and the recipient of the Israel Prize for poetry, the state's highest honor. She was a playwright, author of children's books, literary critic, translator, and founder of the department of comparative literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Rachel Tzvia Back is head of the graduate English program at Oranim Academic College, Israel.
