Recently affiliated with the Washington Speakers Bureau, Dr. Peter Gamwell has been described as one of the most knowledgeable and thought provoking presenters on organizational learning, leadership and creativity in Canada and beyond. On these topics, Peter has been called upon to advise provincial premiers and to present to multiple levels of government, private industry, not-for-profit and the education sector. He has been invited to speak at prestigious events across North America and as far as Australia, including The Imagination Conversation 2013, Creative Oklahoma, and The Creativity World Forum 2015. Peter was the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Leadership Award from OPSOA (Ontario Public Supervisory Officers Association), and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Creativity Network, where he serves with his long time colleague, mentor and friend, Sir Ken Robinson. Born and raised in Liverpool, Peter landed his first position as a music teacher in Newfoundland and Labrador, where he taught for 20 years before moving to Canada's capital and eventually becoming Superintendent of the 7,000-employee, 80,000-student Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. In this position, he led a seven-year transformational culture change, which was captured in the well-received action research study, Unleashing Potential; Harnessing Possibilities: An Odyssey of Creativity, Innovation & Critical Thinking. Peter's philosophy is simple: the health and prosperity of any organization is directly proportional to the value in, autonomy of and creative rein given to the people who make up that organization. He has spent a career inspiring people with this leadership philosophy and practice, drawing on the depth of his research and the range of his experiences to engage audiences into informed dialogue about possible pathways forward, always using his gift for storytelling and humor to wisely illustrate his messages. An avid musician, Peter often entertains audiences with his blues and rock piano, and jams in a band any chance he can get. He lives with his wife, a schoolteacher, in Ottawa, Canada, and has two adult children.
