These poems, all dedicated to the evolutionary progress of Auroville, have come during various periods of my experiences in Auroville, from the late 60's when the Mother invited me to come to the inauguration of Auroville, throughout the 1970's and into the 1980's, and finally, after the passing of my beloved wife Mary Helen, from 2002 to the present, where I am once again devoting my life and work to the building of the Matrimandir Gardens.
The journey has not been easy, often fraught with seemingly insurmountable problems, occasionally with Nature, but most often the difficulty of achieving collective harmony. We know well that Auroville is a cauldron, a crucible, where all the elements of humanity must be present to realize the aim for unity in order that the township, planned for 50,000 residents, become a paradigm for the future of the world.
I have never called myself a poet, for what I write seems to come down from varying heights requiring me only to write. There are moments, however, when I may err in the reception and for that I take credit as well as those occasions when the mind attempts to interfere with its 'vaunted' knowledge.
I offer these poems to the many Aurovilians I know and have known to those present today and to those who have passed from the earthly scene, to the youth in which we feel such promise, and to the sages and seers of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram who have blessedand guided me in my sadhana, but foremost to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother before whom I bow in all humility and gratitude.
