Carolyn Highland is a writer, teacher, and outdoor enthusiast whose work has appeared in Outside, Backcountry Magazine, The Ski Journal, and SKI Magazine. She is the author of Out Here: Wisdom from the Wilderness and the essay collection The Full Range: Essays from a Life Outside. When she isn't teaching fifth graders about metaphors and multiplication, she is usually found doing endurance sports in the mountains or devouring a good book. Highland's writing is celebrated for its ability to articulate the subtle shifts in identity that occur in the wild. She lives in Anchorage, Alaska, with her partner, Andy, and their cat, Spruce.
