The Adventures of the Elderly Sherlock Holmes (Volume 4):
London 1930. Sherlock Holmes, now 76 years old, lives a solitary life in Baker Street. Much in his life has changed. The good old Mrs Hudson has long since passed away. Her successor is her niece Alice Miller. Together with her husband Eddy, she never fails to keep an eye on Holmes and supports him in every respect. It seems almost inevitable that Alice Miller gets drawn into one adventure or another, and with her bold yet warm-hearted manner, she plays no small part in the successful outcome of events.
The now retired Inspector Lestrade has been replaced by Inspector Wolfford. He maintains a respectful relationship with Holmes and holds the master detective in high regard.
However, the greatest change in Holmes's life is undoubtedly the absence of his friend and partner Dr Watson. He numbs the pain through persistent drug use. Holmes has become withdrawn, moody, depressed, indeed almost lethargic.
However, when after so many years since the Ripper murders, brutal killings of women begin again in London, Holmes's sensitivities can no longer be considered. Holmes thus resumes his active work as a detective. This pulls him out of his gloomy routine and does his soul good. Holmes wistfully remembers past days with Dr Watson, whose absence he still hasn't overcome. But a new case leads him directly to Dr Watson's trail. Can Holmes uncover the mystery surrounding his friend Watson, and can things ever return to how they were before?
For Holmes could certainly use all the support he can get. There's a stolen family treasure to find and recover. Easier said than done! Then the young caretaker is found dead in his chamber... And no sooner is one case closed than another corpse appears. The wife of a wealthy businessman is found dead in Richmond Park. It quickly becomes clear that only a left-handed person could have committed the murder. Unfortunately, there are three suspects to choose from. One of them is the riding instructor, with whom the deceased had been having a passionate affair. But is the lover automatically the murderer?
