Patrick John McLogan was born in County Antrim and developed his passion for Central European history during years of travel and research across the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria. A graduate of history from Queen's University Belfast, he has spent more than a decade studying the revolutionary movements of the nineteenth century with a particular focus on the national awakenings of the Habsburg lands. He is drawn to the overlooked corners of European history - the moments when small nations made their claims on the modern world - and to the specific human lives behind the great political transformations. He lives in Belfast, where he is at work on his next book exploring the aftermath of the 1848 revolutions across the successor states of Central Europe.
